Saturday Night.... Learning about Blogging

I decided to take tonight to learn more about this blogging business.  I have visited many, many website trying to get insight on how other people become bloggers and why they decided to stick with blogging.

This is what I learned tonight.  Most people start a blog because they have been through some sort of major life change.  Whether it is a major birthday, a job change or loss, a move, money issues, or a death in the family there always seems to be something major that pushed them to blog.  There is also a love of something involved like cooking, pets, books, spirituality, family, sports, tv and movies, exercise or an expertise in some area they want to share. In my case there were several things that lead to writing this blog.

In September 2012 one of my sons moved to Portland, Oregon with his fiance and my grandson.  The next day I started training for a new job.  This was was the first Christmas spent without my grandson and it was very hard on my husband and I.  On March 27, 2013 my Mother passed away.  My Mom and I were very close, my desire has always been to be like her and to be loved by my children the way we loved her.  I will share more about my Mom later.  We travelled again to Portland in May to see sweet Nolan for a week of fun. We found out we were going to be grandparents for the 2nd time in June with my son and daughter in law, in Madison, MS and he will be a sweet baby boy due in February.   In August 2013 I was laid off from my job and lost my health insurance.  We traveled to Portland to see our sweet Nolan again for the 3rd time September.  Then came clearing and cleaning at my Mom’s house trying to stay busy, getting it ready to show.  Before you know it the holidays are here again and this time we are sharing them with out the grand baby or my mother.  How would we manage no Christmas  at my moms???   Very strange and very lonely month of December.  Christmas will come for us when we land in Portland January 7th and see our baby Nolan again!!!

It made me realize I had time on my hands, a lot on my mind and a laptop to write it down on. I also knew I needed to share and have interaction with others about what I was saying.

In addition to those events in my life something else changed my mind about whether or not I should start and write a blog.  This friend of mine Vickie Stanton decided that I needed to read a book titled “Chickens in the Road” by Suzanne McMinn.  Ms McMinn happens to be a writer that didn’t start blogging until she moved the hills of West Virginia and buys a farm.  As I read the book and followed the blog I ready grew to love this lady and her struggles on this farm.  You can find Suzanne McMinn's blog  at http://chickensintheroad.com/   Also, take time to read this book because I think we can all relate to Suzanne in one way or another.
